I would probably recommend The Melancholy of Suzumiya...i mean that's bound to make them start liking anime right?

Hmm, if I were to recommend an anime series for someone to start with I would have to say begin with a classic anime or one of the most memorable. Among those I would recommend Trigun and Cowboy Bebop. They both have mature storylines with comedic and serious parts. Also, both start out extremely well with excellent storylines.

Ah Cowboy Bebop.  I really have to watch it all in order sometime.

Why not Code Geass? sure it has some major plot holes on it but nonetheless its good.

The great thing about Cowboy Bebop is that it can be watched in any order, except the last few episodes, and you won't become lost.

Honestly, I have never watched Code Geass so I could not recommend it.

I have always intended to start the anime though every time I am about to I usually end up doing something else. Fate conspires against me when trying to watch Code Geass. ^_^

Code Geass?  I don't want to recommend a Sunrise trainwreck.

well its true that the anime has some pretty major flaws and Sunrise is Milking it for all its worth like Evangelion on Gainax. (--,) but its not that bad right...

.Hack//Sign is a good one the storys pretty deep and the whole .hack// Franchise has so much to make people interested.

Well talking about classics, why not one of the Studio Ghibli films?
Personally my favorites are Laputa, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle

I gave up on the guy.  He was teasing me, saying that some guy in the class "likes me" because of a show I mentioned.  On the other hand, someone else in the class recognized Ghost in the Shell because it was mentioned on my lanyard and she just finished Baccano.  Nice.

Conversation with hopeless guy goes:
Him: Hey, hey, that guy doing the presentation up there?  He told me he likes you.  He says that he watches that show that you like.  The ra-something show.
Me: What?
Him: You know, the one you recommended.  Your favorite.  He says it's his favorite too.  You should go talk to him.
Me.  ...Gurren Lagann?
Him: Yeah, you love it, right?
Me: It's not my number one favorite, by any means.
Him: Oh.

...yeah.  Why do I even bother?

I've noticed the younger generation doesn't appreciate the classics much at all....It's a bit sad actually

Like Evangelion and Akira?  I can't believe there are people who haven't watched Akira.  Or even some fairly famous Ghibli films, such as Grave of the Fireflies.
