Trying my hand at GIMP
« on: December 13, 2005, 07:45:05 PM »
I draw (re: sketch) from time to time, mostly characters from stories I write. I don't actively pursue betterment at the sketching because I like the way my drawings turn out. Sure, they're not OMG WOW, and there's a lot to critique, but this isn't something all that important to me. It's just a pastime.

Anyway, I drew this today and then colored it in GIMP. I'm new with that program, so if anyone could give me feedback on the coloring job, it'd be much appreciated.

The character is mine.

Oh, and if you want to see the progress on this image, here's the post on my site with different steps in the making of this.

I don't have that program, but maybe try adding more color variations to it. Like shadows, and highlights. and I know you're asking for coloring advice but I just want to say one thing. I think his right arm is a wee bit too long :P

Proportions are a weak point for me ^_^;;

Thanks for the comment.

And by the by, GIMP works pretty much just like Photoshop.

like kuroneko said you need to add more shadow / highlight because your work lacks depth  :P (I won't say anything about the lineart since you don't want for us to)

I'm not a gimp user, I use photoshop (I have tried opencanvas too...)

Kuroneko- I can't draw females at all -_-

StrikeFlo- Oh I don't mind if you critique the lineart. I'm just saying I might not value that as much as the coloring critique :P

Thanks for the replies! I'll probably get to messing some more with this image later today, and I'll be sure to keep in mind what you guys told me. :)

It's not about time.

It's that I did something really stupid and somehow lost all my layers. I don't feel like restarting the coloring >_<

Flak=bitter loser
