name argument
« on: April 06, 2005, 09:17:04 PM »
Ok, I'd thought that I would put this in the open.  Recently we have had an argument over how to spell a character's name.  The katakana has it as "makkenji-"  Roots have argued it to be McKenzie.  Cccnnn however argued that it should be MacKenzie.  Of course all it took was for yours truly to show them 1 single page.  That page had it written in English as McKenzie (written by the mangaka).  So as of this moment, I stand by that spelling.  Now, cn, being the hard headed idiot that he is might change it to how it "should" be.  So I'm making an announcement right here and now, that if the final release has MacKenzie...it's cn that did it.  So you can address all your comments to him, and then join me in the rebellion to stop this unjust act! ...yes I realized that it was a stupid argument...that's why I stepped in to stop it.

Hell yeah, I pwn3d cccnnn! That fool tried to argue some crap about how Harry is Irish or something. What a n00b.

Now hopefully the mangaka doesn't decide to change Harry's name to something else later in the manga like he did with Sarah. He initially wrote Sarah's name as 'Sala' in English in Volume 3/4 so I left it as he spelt it. Later he writes it as 'Sarah'  ::)

MacKenzie is the proper scottish way to write it, McKenzie is a spelling that was enforced upon them by immigration.  You are supporting the subjugation of the scottish people, Roots!  Our pride of kilts and sheep will not allow this to continue!  You may have our haggis, but you may never take our nomenclature!!

I'm still for McKenzie.  Subjugation blah blah blah, I just stand with the artist's original.  Whatever the artist did, that's the way it should be seen.

I'm for MacKenzie since I think thats the proper way to write it. Furthermore one of the prime Ministers of Canada had that name written like that.

Ehh...I guess it depends on what nationallity the character is, I don't really know, but in my opinion, Mackenzie is more...correct.

Go with what's in the manga.
Try to keep with what the artist has.
Not what you *think* it should be.

Mackenzie or Mckenzie,
I think that Mackenzie looks nicer.

Plum has the right idea.  Plus as the editor, I'm going with McKenzie.  That's my official statement.  The pages were already sent to cn for qc.  So if he changes it, then he's a bastard who altered the mangaka's original spelling of it...so let's see and find out if he really is one :P

Ah but Shinaku MacKenzie has such a more better ring to it and it also is more pretty to see.
However I understand that the mangaka wrote it in english as McKenzie so you cannot alter her work.
