the life aquatic
« on: December 25, 2004, 08:38:45 PM »
anyone gonna see this?

i think it looks pretty good... i mean the story sounds a little stupid, but the way they seem to tell it makes it interesting... i ... guess. or just how it's portrayed on the trailers. i don't know.

it also seems to have an indie feel to it. which i like. and i like bill murray too.

anyway. it came out today, i was thinking of seeing it, but we've had company over since about 3 pm. (it's 8:37 pm for me right now... i'm in pacific time zone since i'm in reno for a while.)

i saw it on X-mas day. It was in a way an indie pic, its got that kinda retro underwater color thing going.

Its more of a continous small grin and a good laugh here and there. Watch it! but i dun think some people will find it funny. Jerks.
Oh, where art thou RedMonkey?

"What would be the scientific reason for killing this shark?"

"Revenge!"

That line in the commercial sold this movie to me!

I saw this movie last night and I must say that it is absolutely-fucking-brilliant.  This is a film for film buffs.  In essence, it's simply one massive character study and the acting in it is awesome.  This film is very comparable to a light hearted Jacque Cousteau-esque application of all the elements that made Lost in Translation such an excellent movie.  It retains the awkardness, the pacing, and Bill Murray's absolute dead-pan portrayal of Steve Zissou.  I actually feel that one can draw more parallels between this film and Napoleon Dynamite than you can with Lost in Translation, but I'm too lazy to do so.  Actually, I feel you'll know what I mean if you go see the movie, the grainy-ness of the film quality and the awkward humor are too of the biggest parallels.  There's just too many parts of this movie that won me over for me to mention, but some of the biggest ones are Klaus slapping Ned, Pele siging David Bowie songs in Portugese, and the way that every random and wacky thing that goes on is treated with the same emotionless documentary feel of a Cousteau film.  Oh, and it's good to see Jeff Goldbloom back in action in tip-top prick form, truly an all-star cast all-around.  "Is that my coffee maker?  How did you get my coffee maker?"

"We fucking stole it man."
