MITSURU ADACHI! READ THIS TOPIC! OR ELSE
« on: August 24, 2004, 02:52:12 PM »
If you do not read it, Cottage Cheese will eat you.

*cough* Anyway.

Mitsuru Adachi has become, in a matter of months, my favorite manga artist/writer.  He has a way of writing that I can see, even when different groups translate his series.  So far I have read Miyuki, Touch, H2, and Katsu.  I hope to read more series, such as Rough.  EVERYONE on this board should check his work out

www.mangadaisuki.com for Katsu
www.mangadownloads.org for Touch
www.mangascreener.com for H2
Miyuki can be found at Mugen

www.manganews.net for any of his other series.

He makes some of the best characters I have ever seen.  His art is old school, yet it doesn't hurt ones eyes.  His backgrounds are incredible, as is his story telling.  Once I start a series, I cannot put it down.  I SO highly recommend his works to anyone who likes manga, or a good story in general.  All of you beter read it.  Take it from me, a seasoned reader.

The ONLY con to his things is that his characters can look very similar from series to series.  HOWEVER, he makes sport of this by having one character call another by a name from say, an older series.  Satoyama Katsuya being mistaken for Uesagi Tatsuya.

Seriously though.  Read his works and witness one of the greatest manga artists of all time.

Just checked it out and I will have to admit that he is very good. Though I did not like Touch very well but I will keep on reading it just in case it gets better. And for some reason the link for Katsu doesn't work right for me.

Thanx that one works now. Just finished downloading Miyuki and from the first chapter 1 find that I will be rather attached to it for some reason. Be back in about 6 hours to tell ya what I think of the rest of them if that is worth anything anyway.

Well, Mitsuru Adachi may be relatively unheard of in the west, but in Japan he's a Legendary Cartoonist, on par with Fujiko F. Fujio, Toriyama Akira and Ozama Tetsuka. Of course he's high caliber.

Try reading his short stories! they're harder to find, but it showcases his skills in a nutshell.

For n00bs: -
Fujiko F. Fujio - Doraemon
Toriyama Akira - Dragonball
Ozama Tetsuka - Atom Boy

you might not believe this, but it is so much easier to be a manga fan if you come from a country where cost of living is particularly cheap. most SE asian countries (except singapore) have copyright licensed comic on sale in thier own language, but the printing costs are so much cheaper, so manga is printed on lower quality paper, but at dirt cheap prices (and they keep, too because although it's paperback, it still has a glossed jacket)

Example. Thailand (my home country) is a Haven for manga fans as long as you read Thai...
Average cost of a Volume of manga? 75 cents. (yes, you hear me!)
An expensive, top tier manga printed on quality paper? 2 bucks.
I bought the entire series of Tetsubana no Jean (27 volumes, complete) for about 13 bucks.

Am in the UK now. can only go back to Bangkok during holidays though, so i won't be able to give you precise details about mangas i read. i do have my fave mangas with me here though: pretty face, Addicted to CUrry, love hina, Green Hill and Kangaeru Inu. (all complete except addicted)

oops, was that too long a post?

PS: Totally forgot Rumiko Takahashi!!! Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, Inuyusha...
