They were good when I first listened to them, but they have been overplayed and overrated so much it has killed my liking of them.

I'm disgusted with you. XD  Haha, you are kidding that some people are "disgusted" with you...

Haha.  Coldplay are bad, they are still a band though... some artists/bands don't derseve to be called musicians.

I read about a Christian death metal band the other day. o.O

Meant to Live has Christian lyrics.  They are not overtly Christian which makes them great to a wide audience and they can share their message to a semi-un-Christian audience.

Like P.O.D.

Which also don't seem like a Christian band at all.

haha, fortunately i don't have to worry about them being overplayed. i never listen to the radio. the only radio i listen to often would be internet radio... and i never EVER watch mtv crap. so... yeah. they're not overplayed for me.

and i'm serious that people, in a way, get disgusted with me when i say i like coldplay... like all my friends will be talking about music, and someone says "god i hate coldplay", i'll say "meh, i like 'em." and they say "EWWW YOU LIKE THEM!?" but then again, most of my irl friends have horrible taste... :P and a girl in my drawing class kinda went through a similar thing when she brought in a coldplay cd for us to listen to...

but when i say i like them, i don't mean that they're one of my favorites. i just don't find them so extremely horrible that i would never listen to them on my own free will.. etc etc etc.

but we have to remember that it is all a matter of opinion. these things aren't just black and white. one person's trash is another person's treasure.

Well, they can be at saturation point, with every new band being, irritatingly, compared with them..

Yup, unless you want to be solipsistic about things.

here's some random fun stuff:

In the Edge 102.1 survey as to who makes better make-out music, Radiohead or Coldplay, Radiohead triumphed 55-to-45.

anyway, back to switchfoot. which i know nothing about... oh well.

their message is a positive one, not about scuicide, drugs, heartbreak, or death, so they're usually considered Christian. plus, they have a lot of actual Christian songs out.

I heard a decent one at some youth gathering called Bleach.  They didn't shout the name of Jesus, which was a plus.  However, people often call normal kindness CHRISTIAN VALUES!!!  If a song has a value in it, it probably doesn't belong solely to christianity.  Therefore, I only consider bands who go SHOUT TO THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH, SING TO THE EAST AND THE WEST and shit like that, christian.

As for Switchfoot, Meant to Live is a pretty cool song.  I like the use of guitars.

Switchfoot is an awesome Christian band.

I know a ton of Christian bands are underrated and I would just like to defend them a little. Notice I am not Christian, but I often listen to the local Christian radio station that plays all genres of music as well as praise music on Sundays.

My favorite show on the station happens to be Three S N, (Sweet, Sweet, Saturday, Night) which plays 3 hours of metal music. Christian death metal DOES NOT SUCK. See: Demon Hunter. *Thumbs up*

The Christian industry has about as many BAD bands as the secular music industry does. Sure there are some awful bands, but there are as many, if not more, awful non-Christian bands.

*Shrugs*

You want to listen to some great Christian bands?
Chevelle <--- I recommend, "Send the Pain Below"
Blindside <--- Awesome, download "Pitiful"
Five Iron Frenzy
FM Static
Thousand Foot Krutch <--- "Faith, Love, and Happiness" Newest song
Kutless <--- "Sea of Faces"
The Elms
Lifehouse <--- "Spin" is one of my favorite songs.
Audio Adrenaline <--- "Ocean floor"
Falling Up
Switchfoot <--- "Dare you to move", "Gone"
Delirious
Downhere <--- Saw them live, incredible. "You know what it's like"
Skillet <--- "Locked in a Cage" Awesome.
Stacie Orrico <--- "More to Life"
Third Day
Sonicflood
Mark Schultz
P.O.D.
Point of Grace
DC Talk <--- "Jesus Freak" Very cool song.
MercyMe
Jars of Clay
Casting Crowns <--- "If we are the one"
Steven Curtis Chapman
Newsboys
Steadfast
Lost Coin
Bleach
One Cross
Demon Hunter <--- "Through the Black"

There are tons. I listed ones that I have heard and most of them are decent. A few are actually some of my favorite bands.

I don't want to seem defensive; I just don't want good, talented bands to be underrated by a stereotype.

WOOT. Just spreading news to the uninformed. =D

Whoo! I listen to a couple of those.  To be exact, Blindside, TFK (one of my fav. but i haven't updated my song list lately), Skillet, Mark Schultz <<;, Point of Grace, and MercyMe (only a few songs).

You're right though, they're really not that bad...but I never knew that Switchfoot was a christian band...nice. :)
I actually didn't know many of these were Christian bands, till I came across it online randomly or something...it's good stuff
