i don't have a kind of music really, i'll listen to almost anything... except i don't listen to pop and hip hop at will (but i can tolerate certain amounts of it, it depends)

but at the time i got the cd, it was my "kind" of music :P that was my kind of...metal/hard rock phase... yeah. but like i said, the only thing that really turns me off to it is his voice

"let's destroy what was once considered punk and make our own genre! and be popular while we're at it!"

Not to mention the fact that they are 20-30 years old and are singing*whining* about high school romances and people actually find it deep and emotional......*no offense to anyone that likes them*

That's what I do. Or rather, that's what I always plan to do. I like a band, so I download a few songs and decide I'm going to buy the CD to get the rest. Then it's so long before I get the chance to go buy the CD, so I end up downloading everything...

I own about 15 CD's total... :|

Well, I ripped my entire collection to mp3 (and brother's but they are not shared to :p to all - it was so I did not have to carry the CDs) and you lose part of the waveform when the file is compressed.  mp3 is a lossy compression format.

Just how it sounds to me... it's not a huge difference,  enough for me to want the CDs... and I like CDs. ^_^

STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS THAT I HAVE EVER HEARD BEFORE

THE STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN LYRICS BY LED ZEPPELIN

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
and she's buying a stairway to Heaven
When she gets there, she knows if the stores are all closed
with a word she can get what she came for
Ooh-ooh-hoo, hoo, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure
'cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook there's a songbird who sings sometimes
All of our thoughts are misgiven

Ooh, it makes me wonder, ooh, makes me wonder-er-er-er-er-er

There's a feelin' I get when I look to the west
and my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees
and the voices of those who stand looking

Ooh, it makes me wonder, ooh, really makes me wonder

And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
then the piper will lead us to reason
and a new day will dawn for those who stand long
and the forests will echo with laughter

Oh-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa-hoh-oh

If there's a bustle in your hedge-row, don't be alarmed, now
It's just a spring-clean for the May Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
nn-there's still time to change the road you're on

And it makes me wonder-a, oh-whoa-hoh

Your head is hummin' and it won't go
In case you don't know, the piper's callin' you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
and did you know your stairway lies on the whisperin' wind
Hoh-oh-oh

And as we wind on down the road
our shadows taller than our soul
there walks a lady we all know-ow
who shines white light and wants to show
how everything still turns to gold
and if you listen very hard
the tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
to be a rock and not to roll-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, yeah
And she's buying a stairway to Heaven

Youko Kenshin, shut up.  Your taste in music is not superior to anyone else's, regardless of what you seem to think, and just because you don't like Slipknot does not mean they are "posers" or "wannabes" or whatever the fuck you like to call them.  And for the record, Good Charlotte is just as bad as Simple Plan, Sum41, Blink-182, etc.  Maybe pop-punk and mainstream emo are the best genres to you, but that doesn't mean you have to criticize bands that actually have some talent.  So just shut the fuck up and take your teenage angst somewhere else, k? ^_^

Oh and here's what I listen to, just so I'm on topic still...I don't like some as much anymore but what the hell, I still listen to all of these

A Fire Inside
Atom and his Package
Camp Kill Yourself
Dimmu Borgir

Jack off Jill
Lower Class Brats
Malevolent Creation
The Misfits
NOFX
Pantera
The Pillows
Sick of it All

Ummmmm.....I like a wide variaty of music actually, so how's about NOT slashing and burning me, cause I do like some weird stuff.  And really to be honest, most of the groups I'm listing only have two or three good songs that I solidly enjoy, but anyways, here we go!:

Animetal
Weiss Kruez
White Zombie
Filter
The Crystal Method
Dido
Linkin Park
Orbital
Kirk Hammet
Marilyn Manson
Sneaker Pimps
Slayer
Korn
Metallica
Pink Floyd
Atari Teenage Riot
Wink
Stabbing Westward
Evanesence
3 Doors Down
Jimmy Hendrix's stuff
Incubus
Fuel
Saliva
Boysetsfire
Endo
Autopilot Off
No Doubt
Seether
Nickleback
12 Stones
Finger Eleven

(But that doesn't include the trance, rave, classical, j-pop, and celtic/japanese music I listen to in my room)

Really, if has a good beat and a good set of lyrics, I probably like it! ;)

Awesome.. I got the EP, They're really good for a pretty mainstream band.

Unfortunately, the lead singer left the band like 2 months ago, so I'm not sure if their still going to release their first full album.

I'm sure a good portion of the people here have heard of My Chemical Romance, as they get lots of air time and spare no chance to plug their music on tv all the time. It isn't polite to undermine people like that, especially when you are being the ignorant one. u_u

I'm sorry if that seemed mean, but don't make remarks like that questioning everyone here's intellegence.
Title: Re: Favorite Bands
Post by: cynical monkey on November 07, 2004, 08:59:39 PM
i don't think they were saying it in that way. they probably just haven't ran into anyone (if anyone) that knows the band, so therefore, conclude that they aren't mainstream enough that people just know them by name.

i know i've had to say "probably haven't heard of them" or "most people don't know about them" many times, because a lot of the music i listen to is underground/indie stuff that doesn't get mainstream attention...

and knowing of a band doesn't have anything to do with intelligence, really... it's just music.

Yeah that’s true, I take back my statement. I'm pretty ill tempered, so if I'm angry I take it out on people and tend to ramble and not mean what I say. Last night I learned something bad about my sister, so I was stressing out a lot.

There are two Blues masters that you guys need to check out, Muddy Waters and Son House.  They may not have invented Blues like Robert Johnson, but they have influenced more artists than I want to even contemplate mentioning.  But Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and the White Stripes is a good start.

Right Now:

Coldplay

HAHAHA. I think the first time I mentioned Coldplay to you, you thought I was talking about Cold (and I still have no idea who they are >_>).

Anyway, so far this year:
Radiohead
The Flaming Lips
Incubus
Red Hot Chili Peppers - I can't believe it took me so long to find out about them. I mean, I'd loved their songs when I heard them on the radio when I was 11 or so... I just didn't realise that they were by this band. >_>
Placebo (depends on my mood)
Gipsy Kings
Afro-Cuban All Stars
The Eagles
Coldplay - nice, but I think I prefer Doves, although I've only heard one song by Doves. Same goes for a bunch of other bands; I really like the stuff I heard but it's too little to class them as 'favourite bands', e.g. The Postal Service, Death Cab for Cutie, Pinback, Jape, Spoon, Whipping Boy, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses... (I'm not even sure if these are all bands or if some are solo artists.)

*Actually, I think I'll take back what I said about liking Doves more than Coldplay. And thanks for that info, Judau. =)

Right Now:

Coldplay

HAHAHA. I think the first time I mentioned Coldplay to you, you thought I was talking about Cold (and I still have no idea who they are >_>).

Cold is a rock band... kind of hard to describe, but I saw them at a Godsmack show... so not super hard, but not soft, either... the last single they had was "Stupid Girl" if I remember right...

Eh, they have their moments, but Frances The Mute is so god damn boring to listen to... You've gotta wait through like 5 minutes of random noises to get to anything resembling music, then after a good 2 minutes of that you're treated to more sounds. =(

Destiny's Child
No Doubt
Evanescence
Black Eyed Peas
The Used

I'm not that much into rock music (most bands are rock) but I still like songs from a band. But Evanescence is probably my favourite band. I think that Amy has a really good voice. She can sing so high in the chorus and can switch to something really low in the verse. It's not just her voice I like. I like their music, although I haven;t listened to a wide variety, I like Evanescence's the best.
