Title: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs
Post by: Aoshi101 on January 12, 2005, 08:50:24 AM
Alright I have no clue where I should put this so I will put it here and if you want to move it do so.

I just got bit torrent yesterday. Anyone know where I could find a good site for bit torrent .avi files of Seed Destiny. I found one but I messed up and now I can't get there no more. So any help would be nice.

here, just search for it, it should come up:

http://www.downloadanime.org/
or
anime-source.com

Just don't get the raws by accident.  For just about anything else try

Boxtorrents.com (entire series, manga, ost, etc)

And welcome to the wonderful world of torrent.

I got a problem. I have a bit Torrent problem. I am using Tornado client for bit torrent right? But it won't connect to peers. I went online help right and tried every solution it gave me but it still won't work. It says it has a tracking problem. How do I fix it?

And

Is there a special way to play.avi files. Cause I actually got one downloaded using another Bit torrent client but all it was playing was the audio from the episode no video how do I fix that?

Well  I don't know about the Tornado client.  I just went to http://bittorrent.com/
and just downloaded that and it has never gave me problems.  Sometimes an error message will pop up but it usually still function.  As for you avi files, chances are you need the codec to view them.  It's rather a divx or xvid.  Just google it.  Download and install them and your media player will be able to play the files.

If you use BitTornado, BitComet, or the other clients availible, you still need to download BitTorrent from the official site first... the other clients are just there to make everything easier, and you can limit upload/download speed, organize, etc...

And I always use use AnimeSuki, it has most everything current.

Some .avis will need DivX, Xvid, and other plugins, its different for each... but if you get those two, you should do pretty well.

You know what I don't know exactly what it does even though I use it. Go to google and type in BitTorrent Clients or something and you should be able to find the official BitTorrent site and they should help you.

BitTorrent is a file sharing device that basically uploads and downloads at the same time. Once you start downloading something, you start uploading (or seeding) right away to other people downloading, therefore the download can finish by downloading from multiple people, helping speed and not using any one person's bandwidth.

First you need BitTorrent, the official client is all you really need, but I use BitComet, since you can do more with it then the default client you get by downloading BitTorrent. Then you just have to find some links to the torrents online and you are set. For unlicensed anime, nothing beats http://www.animesuki.com

Okay first of all, torrents aren't files you use to play your video.  Torrent files are like links that connects them to the video files.  Once you got the torrent files (which is like 2kb), you use those to get your video files.  As for speed, well that depends.  Sometimes it'll be as little as 1kb, but most of the time it'll go up to at least 50.  It usually takes about half an hour to an hour to dl a 30 min file.  Just leave the window open and go do something else.  If the files are old then there might be less people seeding it.  Also after you have finish dl the file DO NOT close the window right away (unless you really have to).  Leave it open for about an hour so other people can get the file too...it's called sharing.

BTW boxtorrent is down for the time being.

I usually use Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic, but yeah, WinAmp works for .avis no problem.

Well if its right in the beginning of a download, it could be at 9k because you have not dowloaded enough to start uploading yet. Give it some time, just let it run for half a day and it should be done, mine usually levels off at about 20k/s since I have my uploads and downloads limited, keeping my computer usable while BitComet is open.

20k for downloading or are you talking about uploading cause my downloading levels at 100k/sec and my uploading is at 20k and question can you guys split this topic and stickie the bit torrent probs that way if people have bit torrent probs they can post on this thread?

Mine is always less than 40 for both, since I limit them.

And no, it really doesn't make sense for the Gundam forum anyway, I just left it here since it started that way. Plus, these are the first issues using BitTorrent I have seen on this board in a long, long time.

Well, in general, the more people seeding a torrent, the faster it will go. Which is why AnimeSuki is usually your best bet, most of the largest fansubbing groups use AnimeSuki, so you will get quality and get it fast.

Exactly. I agree with Jadau.

I figured out part of the problem, with help from suggestions on this thread of course. I could've downloaded the update for wmp a while ago but forgot. The new update (which I got last night) allows it to play.avi files. SWEET. Now I just got to get the official biTorrent to help tornado then Iw ill be able to watch YAY for me. Thanxs guys for the help.

You had to update your WMP in order to play avi files?  Ok, whatever works I guess.  One last bit of tip.  I hope you have a decent computer or else the video will start to lag.  Especially now with the newer versions of WMP, which hogs a lot of power than it should.  If you need to, use the classic player on your computer.  It's a hidden feature.  Just go to START > Run > mplayer2.exe  Enjoy the pleasures of bittorent anime!

Of course you can burn the episodes to keep more space, but only if you have a burner... obviously. ALL versions of WMP have played .avis. So there was some other reason your computer would not play them before... but it works now, so all is good.

When he says WMP he is saying Windows Media Player. And when you say it stays on the first scene and freezes is that when you use WMP?

Oh the audio works which means winamp can't play .avi files. Or so I think. I just use wmp to play those files.
Title: Re: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs

WinAmp CAN play .avis. But... why the hell would you use it if WMP works fine and dandy? I personally never liked using WinAmp for video files, no reason to. I like WinAmp for music, and that's it. Same goes for WMP, I use it for video files, and that's it. Stupid all in one programs, they are never good for everything, they should just stay simple.

Hmmm ineteresting. Goes to show how much I know about winamp. I tried playing different video files on winamp and it never worked. But yeah...Question: When I played destiny episodes on the old version of wmp it was choppy and did not run smoothly, but when I run say anime music videos it runs really smooth. Is there a way to fix wmp so Destiny would run smooth?

no idea but im using vlc player and it seems to work pretty well...
Title: Re: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs
Post by: shinaku on January 25, 2005, 06:44:23 PM
The reason that your wmp is choppy is probably because it couldn't handle it.  Meaning probably your cpu power wasn't enough.  If your anime music video is about 30 mins long and it plays fine, then I don't know.  If by "old" you mean anything older than wmp v9, then using any newer version is probably going to make it worst.  Like I said, wmp v9+ is a memory hog.  My old computer couldn't handle it, but I have a new one now and it plays fine.
Title: Re: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs
Post by: Judau on January 25, 2005, 10:12:46 PM
Yeah, I would say get the newest WMP, I like it just fine, anyway. Although the old ones should work ok, too. Sometimes you might have too much running on your computer, sometimes you need some more codecs. Sometimes, you need to use a different player. I have WMP, WinAmp, VLC, Media Player Classic, Core Media Player, DivX Player, Quicktime Player, and I think another one too... and I had another 4 or so on my old computer. Never hurts to have some backups. One I would stay away from though... RealOne. That thing takes over your computer like a virus. And anyone who encodes for .rm files is stupid in the first place, so you don't need their crap. *nod*

I got wmp old version (don't know which version), wmp v9+, divx player, and one more but I can't think of it. I was using the old version of wmp cause it runs better than the new one when running ep. of destiny. But it is still choppy, though when I got above 130 mb uploaded it started smoothing out a little.
Title: Re: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs
Post by: shinaku on January 26, 2005, 02:33:19 PM
wait are you watching them as you downloading/uploading them?  Cuz if you are then that's probably why it's choppy.  Also, different fansubers have different results.  Seed-Fansub runs more smoothly than AnimeOne...not sure why...it just does.
Title: Re: Bit torrent Gundam/And BitTorrent Probs
Post by: Aoshi101 on January 26, 2005, 02:36:05 PM
I am watching while uploading only cause I don't have the time to wait for it to finish uploading (20k that is slow). Yeah I watch the Seed-Fansub versions.

Post by: Judau on January 26, 2005, 08:34:32 PM
I stick with AnimeOne since well... they do more than just SEED... and I have liked their job on plenty of others. Besides, mine are never choppy. <<

And yeah, you want to wait for it to finish before you watch it. <<
